Saatchi Shows the Love!

Curator and Director of Saatchi Gallery just picked my humble art as "New This Week" currently featured on their homepage and will also be featured in other promotional materials.

That's a huge honor for me! Saatchi is a huge name in the art world and somehow they found me :-)

For those of you whom don't know Saatchi here is a little run down:

Charles Saatchi (born 9 June 1943) is the co-founder with his brother Maurice of the global advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi, and led that business – the world's largest advertising agency in the 1980s – until they were forced out in 1995. In the same year the Saatchi brothers formed a new agency called M&C Saatchi. Charles is also known worldwide as an art collector and owner of the Saatchi Gallery, and in particular for his sponsorship of the Young British Artists (YBAs), including Damien Hirst and Tracey Emin.

Saatchi Online is a platform that allows emerging artists to showcase and sell their work and gives art lovers insider access to new talent from around the world.

Launched in 2006 by London’s renowned Saatchi Gallery, Saatchi Online aims to continue the gallery’s legacy of promoting new, contemporary talent and bringing great art to a wide audience.

RAINBOW CROSSWALKS ART SHOW

UPDATE: DUE TO OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, THE SHOW HAS BEEN EXTENDED THROUGH NOVEMBER 11!
New hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11am - 6pm

The Rainbow Crosswalks are living pieces of art that serve as beacons to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people all
over the world and are bold vibrant symbols of hope and pride which were the spark for this show.

Celebrate these important values by attending the art show at James Gray Gallery, Bergamot Station in Santa Monica.

I have been working non-stop for the last two months to paint a whole new series of paintings to illustrate the LGBT equality.
This new show portrays the history of the equality movement and I have created more than 60 new paintings of LGBT luminaries - Truman Capote, Marlene Dietrich, Allen Ginsberg and more - and other pieces I hope will be embraced

Remember that art is unique it is one of a kind in a mass produced world. I hope you will spend some time here and please, please do remember (yeah I know it sounds like a bad excuse :-) ....) but taking photographs or art, is an art form it self. It is hugely difficult to capture all the contrast, colours and details of a painting in a photograph. I guarantee you this: if you like the pictures here of my art, you will love it when you see it in real life.

On April 19th I wrote to the West Hollywood City Council about an idea to paint the crosswalks in West Hollywood rainbow coloured during the June 2012 Gay Pride.

The idea was simple; I see those white crosswalk as an empty canvas and saw an opportunity; paint them and make a statement!

Today on May the 29th I got a letter back confirming the Mayor Mr. Jeffrey Prang and Council member Mr. John Duran loved the idea but it had to put it fourth in a council meeting on Monday June 4th at 6.30 PM at West Hollywood Library located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard (at Melrose). They need to vote on this project and for that we need your support and help

This past Monday the West Hollywood City Council sat down to vote for item 2.M:

Rainbow Crosswalks for Gay Pride Month at San Vicente & Santa Monica Blv. Sponsor: Mayor J. Prang, Deputy to Mayor, M. Haibach, Council Member J. Duran and H. Molina.

Subject: The City Council will consider having the crosswalks at the intersection of Santa Monica and San Vicente Boulevards painted in rainbow colours in celebration of Pride Month in West Hollywood.

The City Council voted all in favor! And it is now in progress, they will start painting the intersection this Wednesday and Thursday night so it is ready for the weekends opening of Pride Month. It will stay for the entire month of June.

As you all know we are trying to document this thing in a short film and for that we still need your help (I wish I could personally finance it but I am not in that pay scale bracket). So please, why not be part of American civil rights history and take action? Buy the DVD for only $25 or buy the poster signed personally by me! It is all for a good cause!

Art Show

I am having an art show at The Happening Gallery in Marina del Rey on Saturday the 12th of June 2010, 6:00 PM till 9:00 PM.

I would be honored if you took time out of your busy calendar and showed up for some art, arty farty conversation, hob nob with celebrities, sport
personalities, nobel prize winners, former presidents and olympic champions and drink nothing but champagne.

I've been busy doing art for this show specifically and it is in the same
style as the art I show cased at The Grammys and at The Golden Globe.

Bring your wallets! My art aint cheap and ladies; phone numbers, winks and smiles do not pay the rent*. Green does!

Danish Artist Wins Big at Major Award Shows

Martin Duvander Chosen to Showcase Art at Golden Globe and The Grammy’s

Martin Duvander’s painting, “ A Letter to the World” was selected among several artists to be showcased at the celebrity press room at the 2010 Grammy Awards and the Golden Globe ceremony held in Los Angeles. In “A Letter to the World” Duvander constructs a wall of fashion statements carefully selected from magazine cut-offs, using regular wall paint, oil sticks and pencil.
